Gamesa US Supports Bone Marrow Donor Drive

April 7, 2009 at Friends Select School in Philadelphia

Gamesa US is giving back to the Philadelphia community by contributing to the Friends Select School ’s Bone Marrow Donor Drive .  The Friends Select School is sponsoring this drive to show support for a community member, Morgan Donato, who is a second grade student at the school who was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year and is currently on a waiting list to receive a bone marrow transplant.

How employees can contribute

Employees can contribute to this cause by going to the Friends Select School located at 17th and the Parkway, Philadelphia , PA 19103 on April 7, 2009 between 4:00pm-6:00pm to register with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry.  By registering, employees make a commitment to consider donating to any patient who matches your tissue type (not just to Morgan).  Registering does not commit employees in any way to donating their marrow if found to be a match for someone.  Employees have the right to change their minds at any time.  Donating is always voluntary.  There is complete information on becoming a bone marrow donor on the NMDP website (www.marrow.org).  Employees are encouraged to review this website to obtain complete information before making the commitment to donate.

The registration process is simple and should take less than an hour.  The process begins with completing a consent form, which medical staff will be there to review to determine eligibility as there are certain requirements that need to be meet to qualify to become a donor.  If eligible, the next step is taking 4-5 mouth swabs to determine tissue type and the final step is receiving your donor ID card.  It is that simple.

For employees who wish to participate, Gamesa will cover the $25 donor registration fee, employees will be permitted to participate during normal working hours and be paid their normal daily wages, and also cover transportation costs (public transportation fees or mileage).  To sign up to attend the April 7th registration, please e-mail renews.us@gamesacorp.com by April 3rd.

Thank you in advance to the employees who wish to donate to such an important, life saving cause.
