Happy Birthday Morgan!

Tuesday June 23rd was Morgan’s 8th birthday which we celebrated in the Hospital.  It was bittersweet because Morgan was still having great difficulty with the pain, and depression caused by her GVHD flare-up but still tried to enjoy it the best she could.

This last week has proved to be a punishing round for Morgan.  Since our re-admission last week Morgan has undergone a lot of changes.  Lots of pain, sleepless nights, and having to persevere the long tedious process of healing.

GVHD is the dreaded side effect we have been hoping to avoid.  Rashes, boiling skin, severe pain, inability to walk, talk, eat or drink, fits of rage and anger have all been a part of Morgan’s daily experience for the last few days.

the good news is that Morgan is now slowly starting to recover.  she is slowly starting to become herself again, the pain is more manageable, the boiling skin has now subsided, the fits of rage are gone.  Now its time to heal!

As I sit here and write, Morgans is quietly sleeping behind me. I find myself looking over my shoulder every few minutes just to make sure she is comfortable.  On a fun note she is also starting to get back her sense of humor.  Apparently last night I was snoring a bit too loud and was awakened a couple of times by the sudden impact of Morgans pillow hitting me in the head.  Needless to say I was a bit startled, but we both enjoyed the comedy in the middle of the night.

She has now resumed some of her usual activities, like drawing with her markers, and watching her favorite shows, but is not quite back to her regular self just yet.  She has even given me the “Dad your a nerd” look on several occasions when I say something dumb just to see if she is paying attention.

The scuttlebutt around is that Morgan is progressing exceptionally well with her GVHD, and everything else is fine.  she is now expected to start recovering a little more rapidly, and hopefully we will get home sooner then later.

On another note, just wanted to thank everyone for all of the kind thoughts, emails, cards, gifts, and well wishes.  Morgan’s blog still gets about 100 visits a day from people all over the world.
